the field. it really wasn't an ideal location for anything unless you were playing sports but katerina wasn't in the mood to go elsewhere. most of the other outdoor locations on campus were occupied by crowds of other students, sitting in their little cliques, chatting their afterlife away as if something tragic hadn't happened to them recently. the black haired girl shook her head, adjusting her beanie to fit more snugly on her head. of course, most people had been in the dirge longer than she had. if you could really call them people anymore. kat definitely felt out of place in this new life, especially with all the different types of people around her. moving to america for a year had been crazy, but meeting all these new people and being in this bizarre situation took the cake for the weirdest things that had happened to her.
speaking of cake, that sounded really good right now. she wondered how much that would cost or where she could get some. most likely more than the bulgarian had. katerina was a good student, of course, but her time in america had changed her a lot more than her parents would have liked. new clothes, new hair, new personality. she simply gave off the vibe that she didn't care and, hence, people believed her. it was amazing what a bit of make up and hats could do to affect somebody over all. so now she'd just have to sit back and accept that, at least for a little while, she would have to do without little treats and bargains.
the nikolov had been staring off into space as she thought, leaning against one of the smaller trees with her arms crossed and legs pulled up to her chest. why hadn't she brought any music? she didn't doubt that she could at least afford to haggle a few people from their old iPods or even CD players. maybe coming to the field was a bad idea. katerina was definitely going to bore herself to death if she didn't see somebody soon. being alone wasn't worth it all. it gave her too much time to think--something that the black-haired girl tried to avoid when she could. she stood, giving a stretch and turned blindly around the tree to head back inside the building.
thud.
"fuck, kat. get yourself together." that was the first thing that dashed through her head as she collided with the other person. she hadn't heard them walking. man, she must of really been spaced. she stumbled back half a step from the impact, looking down at the ground before making eye contact with the other person. "sorry...?" she quickly put out, though the phrase suddenly seemed foreign. was that the right word? "sorry, yeah. that's right. you alright?" katerina queried, hoping that whoever she ran into wasn't going to pitch a fit. good behavior would mean she got more money on that stupid little blue card and getting into a fight was the last thing she could afford.
