tags: vincent words: 350+ notes: english class, because i said so | much to her dismay ariella hadn't exactly been making friends left and right. they would come though, she knew that much, once she put herself out there and started living again. that was a strange concept to wrap her mind around. she was dead and yet she was alive, living and breathing. after meeting vincent at the mall she hadn't bothered to text or call him, although she did go to the park for a run one day that was about it. her cellphone remained empty when it came to messages and phone calls and her only contact was vincent. he was a last resort though. now it was her first official day of attending college. that had to be putting herself out there. there had to be others like herself who only needed to adjust to being dead before making their way back into the normal routine. dirge was far from normal but ariella could make it work, she had to. how else was she supposed to keep her sanity when she had died in such a ridiculous manner. it was hard not to think about her friends and family, but she knew they would have to move on from her death much like herself.
walking on the campus grounds she felt almost as if she were on a runway, only because she had been able to score a great outfit at the mall that made her feel right at home. if her fashion major friends were with her they would have been proud. of course they had influenced her fashion choices but it helped that they could critique and find what worked for her body type. it was still early spring so she wore a black long sleeve shirt with a bright pink sleeveless jacket on top, just to layer up. she wore a pair of black pumps and a dark pair of skinny jeans matched with a black and silver studded purse that easily worked as a bag for her school supplies as well, although all she had was a binder and a few pens. she was on her way to her english class, or rather her first class in dirge. to say she was nervous would be an exaggeration, but she wondered if it would be just the same as the college she had attended in california. once inside the building she traipsed up the steps before walking into the classroom. apparently she was early as there were only a few other students seated at tables but she found a spot right in the back corner, next to a window. she would pay attention of course, but she would also observe to see how class went and how her classmates acted. setting her purse down on the table she glanced at the clock to see that there were only a few more minutes until class started. she wasn't too early at least.

Having to sit still in class listening to some old guy lecture them on some obscure lesson. Half of the time he wasn't even sure the professors knew what they were talking about. They would just babble on and on about something and most of the time it wasn't anything really important.
Though he couldn't really complain since he only had one class today, English. He just hoped his professor wasn't old gray haired and winded. Vince could do without trying to fight sleep for an entire semester. Though much to his surprise something was waiting for him once he opened the door or rather someone was rather lucky to find themselves in the same class. A smirk graced his face as he thought to himself, 'Oh daaamn.' Despite her stubborn attitude, Vince thought she looked good. Damn good. But there was still the matter of her not calling him. He was sure she would of checked in with him at least once but no. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Bbang. It was a shame though.
There were really that many people in the classroom, so dialogue wouldn't be too awkward. Or that was the general idea Vince had. It was honestly rare for him to show up early or on time at all, most of the time when he went to his classes he was late or showed up right when the professor did. But it was the first day, he might as well get to know his classmates or in this case, Ariella. He sat his bag down at a desk near her. "The elusive Ariella-ssi. I see we're in the same class. How nice and it gives me a chance to catch up since you never gave me a call," Vince stuck his tongue out.

tags: vincent words: 350+ notes: i knew there was a reason i liked you. | she turned her attention to her bag and pulled out her binder and a pen, although she had to dig around in the bottom of her bag for a moment before retrieving it. sometimes bags were a hassle no matter how cute they were. it was easy to lose anything inside of them, no matter how big or small. with her pen in hand she opened up her binder, not exactly ready to take notes or write anything important down but instead doodle. perhaps doodle wasn't the correct word though, rather she would actually just scratch lines and make marks across the page. it always made her appear as if she were taking notes because she wasn't doing long swooping lines that looked like a drawing. before her pen touched the paper though she heard a voice say her name. turning her head to face the source of the voice she felt her stomach drop, just a bit. it would be vincent. she didn't necessarily have a problem with him, save for the fact that he reminded her of many of the players she knew while alive, but he wasn't the worst possible. what bothered her was that for her first class on her first day she actually shared that with vincent. she would be seeing him more often than she would have liked.
although she knew he was sticking out his tongue playfully he was probably bothered by the fact that she had not called him to ask a question. it would have given him the chance to talk to her more and to try and figure out what he could do to make her like him. that or to get it so that they could spend more time together. "vincent, right?" she questioned with a smile. there was no need to let him know that he was the only person she had even talked to in dirge. that would only boost his ego all the more. her halo wouldn't be acting as out of control and crazy as it had the last time they met. it was dimmed to the max because she didn't want to be the girl who literally outshone everyone in the class. "sorry about that," she started, "i met some people who were able to help me with this tricky halo and it kept me busy." pointing a manicured finger above her head she continued to smile through the lie. it was partially the truth, because she had gotten better control of it, just not with anyone else's help. "besides, i'm sure you were busy enough to not miss a call from me." she added.

He realized at that instant exactly how things would play out. They'd wind up playing games. She'd say she was busy and he'd act as if he wouldn't mind. It was the same thing all girls like her did. They were all the same when it boiled down to it. Deep down inside, it made Vince mad but such feelings had to be expressed subtly. After all Vince did have a reputation to uphold as being cool calm and collected. He couldn't be the cool guy if he went around letting people know he was ticked off.
The fact that she had to remember his name was no surprise to him. It hurt his ego, sure, but it was the same thing all girls like her did. Quite stubborn. He raised a brow and continued smiling as if nothing was wrong. Her story about her halo wasn't exactly unbelievable but Vince doubted all of what she was saying was true. Somewhere along the lines there was a lie. He wasn't sure where but he knew it. Vince could practically smell it. But on the bright side -- or dull side -- her halo was a lot dimmer than before. It wasn't shining brightly and it wasn't shining so brightly it hurt. Like before. Those memories couldn't have been forgotten so easily. They did hurt after all and it was such a huge shot at Vince's ego. No. That was something that would stick in his mind for a good long time. A whole semester perhaps. Or longer. "Right right. I can see it plain as day or not. Since it hasn't caused anyone any trauma or anything like."
He leaned back in his chair. Vince wasn't exactly pining away for her to call but he had waited. He expected a friendly hi or something in the least. "It's okay though. I can see the time was well spent and I did have a nice time while you're at it." Again partial truth, Vince had lived his life afterward and he did have people he needed to see. "But I can always make time. Just so you know."

tags: vincent words: 350+ notes: we should make them partners for a project. xD | ariella laughed as vincent mentioned being able to see that he had control of her halo. it was easy to see now that she wasn't blinding him, not like she wanted to anyways. more people were slowly but surely filtering in the room and she felt no need to suddenly blind everyone. she needed some friends or familiar faces she could go to besides vincent. "well i was worried i had traumatized you." she teased, "but you're still around so i guess it takes a little more than that to scare you off." it should have been enough that she had been rude to him when they first met but it hadn't. instead he continued to act like nothing was wrong and nothing phased him. it was a good facade to say the least, he knew how to hold it well. "i'm glad. i would have been worried if you hadn't had an enjoyable time." she commented. it was in his nature to have fun, it was what he did because he wanted to have fun and enjoy himself. it was all about him. she wasn't blind to the fact that he was selfish and cared about himself along with his looks. it was typical, but he was more persistent than others she had observed.
"that's very kind of you." she offered, "i thought it would be hard to fit me into that busy schedule of yours." ariella was certain that he was constantly busy, only because he was making things up as he went although he still had a plan while doing everything. it would be pointless not to. "i wonder how bad this class will be." she wondered aloud, "i mean, if it will be ridiculously hard or easy and how the teacher will actually be. i don't know if i'll survive if their tone can put me to sleep." the class had to be easy enough, considering they were dead and there wasn't much one could do with a college education when they were dead. hopefully it would just go through the basics of writing essays and then reading a few books to be a breeze.

He wasn't exactly sure whether she was patronizing him or not. If she really knew how his schedule was or if she was just blowing smoke. It irritated Vince how he couldn't read everything about her. How she was so much like those other girls but in a way different. It was probably the same thing that kept him coming back though. Vince normally didn't make conversation with people who didn't exactly enjoy his company. But then again, she was pretty and had a great fashion sense. Something Vince admired deeply. "Nonsense. Nothing is written in stone."
His attention -- or their attention -- momentarily went back to the class. Vince couldn't deny that he was a bit curious as to see how their class would turnout. He had been praying all morning that it wouldn't have been one of those gray men with a monotone voice. Back when he was alive he had teacher like that and it was absolutely awful. Vince had never scored so low in a class before. Apparently, the two of them were wondering the same thing though. Hoping for an easy class with a decent teacher but it wasn't like decent teacher died everyday. "Ugh. I just hope we don't get stuck with a robot. It's no fair if they expect us to pass if all the teacher does is mumble and shoot us with a massive amount of homework."
As time passed, more and more people came into the classroom. The teacher was to be expected soon and then all of their questions would be answered in a matter of minutes. The teacher's teaching methods could be told by a number of things: tone, posture, and the syllabus. If that wasn't enough, well, the first day would gauge their teaching level. Whether they'd be good or bad. Vince's attention turned to the door as the knob turned. It had to be the teacher because all of the seats had been filled up and it was time for class to begin already. That meant the teacher was one of two things old or immature. Hopefully neither. "How much you wanna bet it's gonna be some old guy in his mid-seventies?" Vince joked.

tags: vincent words: 350+ notes: sometimes i have ideas. | of course he would offer that his schedule was open, if only for her. how many other girls had he offered that line to? perhaps it wasn't as many since he had recently died as she had but while alive she could only imagine how many other girls he would woo over with that line. "it's like you read my mind." she admitted at his mention of being stuck with a robot for a teacher, "what's the point of having a teacher if they are only setting you up for failure? you'd think they would want teachers who actually want their students to actually learn and pass their class rather than have a bunch of misfits who get left behind and forced to take the class again." thankfully ariella had never had to repeat a class, although there were a few close calls where she had to rely on her friends to help her make a passing grade, but that's what friends were for. at his mention of a bet she looked around the room for a moment, realizing that the only possible person at the door was in fact the teacher because the seats were completely filled.
"i bet we get someone in their fourties." she offered, only because she had yet to see any elderly people in dirge. there were plenty of college and high school aged people who roamed the town as well as the mall which was quickly becoming her new home. they, whoever they were, couldn't possibly allow teenagers or other young people to possibly teach courses that required so much experience and expertise. that just seemed silly. in walked a man, who wasn't exactly in his mid-seventies but nor was he young enough to pass for a college student. good morning class he offered as he walked towards the front of the room, sorry for the delay. you'll find your syllabus filled with pointless information that you don't care for but you get to review it with your partner for your first writing assignment. i'll partner each of you up accordingly. he opened his briefcase to pull out packets of pages and gave them to the nearest student to begin passing them around. you and you. he said repeatedly as he pointed to different students. ariella was excited for a moment, an easy opportunity was presenting itself for her to meet someone new besides vincent, before she watched as the teacher pointed to herself and vincent. that's it. a five page paper on the importance of writing as well as ten bullet points on the most important things to remember from the syllabus. have at it. after he said that ariella couldn't help but sigh, annoyed with the thought of now having to work with vincent.

Neither one of them swung or took any hits when class was involved. They were being quite civil with each other actually. As long as the teacher was the subject at least, if anything else came into play who knows what might have happened. There was a large possibility they'd go right back to making subtle hits at each other.
Vince pouted. In seemed as if Ariella was right. Better her be right than him though, if he were right they'd be stuck with some craptastic teacher. Though the tone of his voice didn't seemed too enthusiastic. Vince had seen more enthusiasm on the face of a sick dog. And to top it off he was already talking about essays. It would be a group effort, which meant Vince had the chance of being paired with anyone in the class. Including Ariella. And judging by how she hadn't called him or anything, she didn't really want to be bothered by him. Vince could have it either way. Whether he was paired with her or not wouldn't matter to him. If he was, well, they'd get to know each other very well.
The teacher went down the aisles passing out the syllabus and partnering students. Vince nearly burst into laughter as the teacher ended up pairing him with her. Just her luck. She had gone around avoiding him and now she had to communicate with him. It was for a grade and all. The whole thing made Vince want to laugh but he was content with a big smile. He looked over to Ariella. She must of been so surprised. So many things must of been going on in her head at that moment. "Oh nice to meet you...Partner." There was a hint of smug attitude in his words. Sure. He wouldn't of minded being paired with someone else but this sort of made Vince feel good. It cleared up all of the irritation and put him in a great mood.

tags: vincent words: 350+ notes: on an iPad | Vincent had to feel like he was on top of the world. This was just what he wanted, an opportunity to spend more time with her, whether she liked it or not. This may have been a pay back of sorts for not calling him at all since she had met him but that was thinking too negatively. If anything it was just the luck of the draw that she just so happened to have this class with Vincent and on top of that she was partnered with him at random thanks to the teacher. She would just have to grin and bare, dealing with what had just happened. There were worse things that could happen, although at the moment she couldn't think of any thing. The assignment would be easy enough. The importance of writing was a breeze of a topic that could easily fill more than five pages so the requirements could be met with ease. The ten bullets about the important items from the syllabus would require some light reading but the packet was only a few pages long. If she were desperate enough she could skim it over to find key words of importance but it seemed that the teacher likely had some hidden text within.
"nice to meet you too partner." she said through nearly gritted teeth. Now was not the time to make it extremely obvious that she didn't want to work with him. Even if he was too dense to realize it they were partners and she couldn't have her grade affected by the Vincent. That would just be pathetic, possibly even more so than the way she had died. "so do you just want to split this up and we can each take a part?" she offered, "I mean, I have no problem taking care of the essay and that can leave you with the ten bullet points one syllabus." it was a perfect plan to her of course. She could get the major part of the work done and not have to worry about her grade having permanent damage done to it. The bullet points couldn't be worth as much as a five page Paper. It also meant that she could work on her own and not have to deal with Vincent, save for when they came to class. It would be easy to write each others names on the paper after it was all said and done.the real problem was whether or not Vincent would go along with the idea, which at this point she highly doubted but it was worth a shot.

Not only did he get to be paired up with Ariella it seemed as if he had her in the palm of his hand. It was painfully obvious that she didn't want to work with him or at least to him it was. Girls like her never replied back to him in a truly joyous manner. Whatever they said had some sort of hostility in it. No matter what the subject. She couldn't hide her facial expression, not from him. His head rested his his hand and he never ceased to grin her way.
Most of the time, the deal she offered would be completely fine with Vince and if they were under any other circumstance he'd take it. But today was different, since she had went through the trouble of avoiding him he'd make her suffer. Vince had the upper hand for once and he could practically make her do whatever he wanted. A hand quickly brushed through his hair. "Aww Ariella~! Tsk tsk tsk!!" he wagged his finger. "You think I would put you through that kind of trouble? Oh no. I'm a man aren't I? It wouldn't look good if I put you through that kind of pain." he teased. It was probably obvious to her what he was trying to do. Just using the project as a way to get to know her but Vince didn't care one bit. She had to work with him one way or another, no ifs and or buts. It was either work together or they'd both suffer from a bad grade and by the looks of things she didn't want that mark on her record. "No. I think it'll be better if we worked as a team. That's the point of a group project, right?" he winked.

tags: vincent words: 350+ notes: can you tell i was bored on my lunch? | no, of course vincent wouldn't allow things to go easily as he wagged his finger to chide her at the thought. she quickly turned her gaze to the side in order to stop herself from rolling her eyes at him. even though he was trying to be cute she didn't find it amusing in the slightest. he was after a smile or a laugh but he would be getting none. she was no toddler who found that sort of behavior amusing, although she began to wonder if he was doing it all only for her sake, just to play with her. she had to stifle a laugh that nearly escape as he spoke of himself being a man. if any man constantly acted the way he did there would be no such thing as a man, only boys. "it wouldn't be that painful." she shrugged as she was finally able to look at him once more after a moment to compose herself. the painful part was going to be working with him and attempting to get things finished in a timely manner, meaning no time at all. that wouldn't work well for vincent though. he would want time to drag on as long as possible. this was all to his advantage to say the least.
"yeah, a group project." she sighed as she looked around the room. most of the other partnered students had all ready moved together to begin their work as it seemed that the teacher was going to give them the class time to do it. either the teacher didn't care to teach or he was waiting to see who would survive the first day of class before actually putting forth any effort. "let's just get started on the syllabus at least then." she suggested, "that way it will be done and out of the way and i think it will be the easiest." picking up her packet of pages she began to skim over it, finding that it was mostly just stating what was expected in terms of attendance and participation. it was going to be one of those classes where tests and class participation determined everything. that wouldn't be too hard, considering she hadn't planned on ditching any of her classes just yet. "find anything to be the most important yet?" she questioned as she took her pen and wrote her name as well as vincent's on the top of a page in her binder and wrote a number one.

Cooperation. It wasn't such a terrible thing. Honestly, Vince some terrible beast or anything. He had his faults. His many many faults but he tried to cover all of them by being as smooth as possible. When things didn't go his way, well, let's just say he persuaded them to do otherwise. It wasn't hard or anything it just took the right words here or there. Ariella was no different, he just had to figure out what to say. Everyone had their buttons and it was just a matter of time till he figured out hers. "Right right. I get it."
Vince started flipping through the pages of the syllabus. It was all the same dribble every teacher threw at them every semester. Grading scale, Homework, Essays, Policies. The works. There wasn't too much to go into detail about. There wasn't exactly anything that Vince could really put his finger on for most important though. It was a touchy subject. He bit his lip and he looked the page over. "Aish. Um. So far all I can say is it's tied between the dates for essays and the attendance policies. It says right here that if you miss more than 3 days your grade automatically gets knocked down a letter. More than 5 and um. Bbang. You're done." That was actually sort of intimidating. Vince liked to wander around and show up whenever he wanted. He couldn't exactly show up late or he'd be deemed absent and he couldn't skip a bunch of days. Though, if he played his cards right it wouldn't matter. He'd save those days for something that was worthwhile. "Looks like I can't mess around before class," he sighed. "What do you think?" he asked. Vince wasn't exactly sure how they would put it down but now he was sort of leaning towards attendance. Even though he was sure he was going to break that little policy one way or another.

tags: vincent words: 350+ notes: stealing ipads can be bad though... | there was vincent's weak spot, attending class. missing class three days would take a lot and to miss five days really meant that you had a problem attending classes, that meant vincent only brought it up because he would have a problem with that. she couldn't help but smile to herself at the thought of him failing and being kicked out of the class. all right, that was a bit cruel but really what reason was there to miss class now, especially five days. there were no pressing matters to attend to, they were dead. nothing was worse than the current state that they were in. "then let's say attendance." she shrugged, "forgetting an essay won't knock you down as far as missing five days of class." next to the number one she wrote down attendance, missing three or even five days. then she wrote two, essays. the bullets were self explanatory after all and she didn't feel like wrting a novel on something so simple. "i think class participation is going to be third after the attendance and essays. you have to make a comment at least once a week that actually contributes to the discussion, not just agreeing with what is being discussed." she answered.
depending on how talkative the rest of the class was participation would be fairly easy. english was a subject where just about any comment could be applied to the current discussion. of course sometimes it was a hit or miss but that still took some effort. now if there were enough talkers to decided to debate every time there was a discussion that would get extremely old. hopefully the teacher wouldn't allow that. "then of course there's homework, which will always be important. other than that i think the rest is minor, like not having your cell out and other items that are more of pet peeves." she shrugged as she all ready started to write down attendance and homework on her paper. "are you all ready planning on missing class a lot?" she finally questioned, not truly caring for his answer but all ready pleased with the thought of not having to constantly see him.

It all seemed quite easy the way she was doing things. "Oooh. I suppose you're right, huh? Makes a lot of sense." The fact that they were just making points might of been the reason why. Being stubborn didn't exactly equate to her being dumb. And if Vince had been completely honest with himself, she really hadn't said anything truly stupid since they met. Hurtful, sure. But everything she said so far has been well thought out and calculated. Perhaps it was just a girl thing, who knew. A few girls did know how to put up a good argument every now and then. She was one of them. "Ha! Oh I'm gonna participate aright."
Class participation was such an easy task given he had enough time to come up with a bullshit answer. It all depended on one thing if he knew the topic and/or if someone was speaking before him. Who was to say he could simply add on to their reasons with a few vague made up facts of his own. It all really easy the only catch was you had to either be awake the entire time or remotely have been paying attention. The rest of the list had been filled pretty easily. The rest was basic stuff that most teachers said like stuff about food, gum, phones and etc. Useless stuff. His attention would soon turn to Ariella as she asked him a question about his attendance. What was she getting at? Was she trying to see if he was going to come to class or was she just wondering. Whatever the reason, Vince would reply back to her in a joking matter. As always. "Why? Are you trying to help me out or something?" he chuckled. "Oh Vince-Oppa!! Please come to class you need your education~! I don't want you to fail!!!" he said mocking her voice and batting his eyes. "Haha. Now don't go getting all mad at me~! I was just kidding. I'll be showing up. Just with a slightly modified schedule I guess." A modified schedule to him was just another way of saying he'd take a few days off just for the hell of it or if something happened. That and he'd probably show up a little late.

tags: vincent words: 350+ notes: but that's more entertaining. | ariella began writing down each of the pet peeves, quickly filling up the list of ten so that one of the two assignments would at least be over and done with. that was the easy part. the essay would be another matter considering they would be outside the classroom and who knew how well they would work together on that. it wasn't something simple and straight forward like the syllabus assignment. just as she finished writing the last point she shot a glare his way as he suggested that she was trying to help him out. school was going to have to be his own priority, not hers. there was no point in trying to force someone into doing something when they didn't want to, considering there was nothing after college in dirge it seemed. before she could even make a snide remark he was all ready telling her to relax because he was only teasing. "how do you know you're older than me?" she questioned with a smirk, "and i would never talk like that. i don't think i've sounded like that since i was five." her smirk was turning into a smile though as he made it sound like she would be some whiny young girl with a crush when it came to their english class. it was perfect, save for the fact that she wouldn't say that sort of thing.
"a modified schedule?" she questioned, "don't tell me you have other classes at the same time as this one or that you have too many credits." her own schedule was pretty cut and dry. each class had a thirty minute break in between for the passing period which gave her a chance to figure out where she was supposed to go. the campus was not large enough to cause her to get lost so the cause of vincent's modified schedule escaped her. "all right, the ten bullet points on the syllabus is done. the essay will be a little different." she commented as she capped her pen and closed her binder, "i may get started on a rough draft later, just so it can be started. then your modified schedule won't need any more modifications." for claiming to be able to make time for her she found it amusing that he was going to have to figure out how to make time for this english class and probably his other classes.
